Finnish health authorities reported 188 new coronavirus infections since last Friday (64 on Saturday, 58 on Sunday, 66 on Monday), bringing to 9,046 the total number of cases in the country since the beginning of the pandemic.
In addition, there have been 2 more deaths, in Helsinki and Tampere hospital areas bringing the total number of fatalities to 341, according to the latest figures released by the National Institute of Health and Welfare (THL, in its English acronym).
There are also 19 patients receiving hospital treatment. Of them, 2 are admitted to intensive care.

In its latest assessment of the coronavirus situation, published last week, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health admitted that the number of Covid-19 cases has increased in Finland "at an alarming rate in recent weeks."
THL says that during the most recent fourteen-day monitoring period (5 –18 September), 638 new cases were diagnosed. The incidence of new cases in relation to the population was 11.5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
Growing number of cases
But these figures have already fallen short. According to data from the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), now Finland shows a cumulative incidence of 13.7 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the previous two weeks.
Even so, Finland remains the Nordic country with the lowest incidence of new cases. Among its neighbors, Sweden has 26.7 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 2 weeks; Norway has 28.6 and Estonia 30.9.
Further afield, but still among the Nordic countries, Denmark has an incidence of 74.1 new cases per 100.00 inhabitants in the last 2 weeks and Iceland 57.4.
