Finnish health authorities reported 1,307 new coronavirus infections and 2 deaths linked to the Covid-19 disease in the last week.
Of these, 258 cases were registered on Wednesday, 7 July.
According to the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), the number of cases registered in the last two weeks has doubled compared to the previous period of 14 days.
The same occurs with the incidence, which has risen to 40 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past two weeks throughout the country.
In the region of Helsinki-Uusimaa, the most affected since the beginning of the pandemic, the incidence is close to 68 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
Finnish health authorities and the government have repeatedly expressed concern about the possible expansion in the country of the Delta variant, first detected in India.

To date, 435 infections of this highly contagious variant have been detected, many of them associated with travel by football fans to Euro 2020 matches.
Despite the increase in infections and incidence, the pressure on hospitals remains stable.
On Wednesday, 44 people were admitted to Finnish hospitals because of Covid-19, of which 7 were in intensive care wards.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, Finland has reported 97,049 cases of Covid-19 and 976 deaths associated with the virus.
