The number of coronavirus infections in Finland continues to increase. On Friday morning, the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) reported 97 new cases, bringing the total number to 1,615. The country added 1 more death, with which there are already 20 deaths in Finland.
According to THL, the age of 16 of the dead has been known. The median age of the deceased is 84 years. The youngest of them was 56 years old and the oldest was 101 years old.

In the last 24 hours, the number of hospitalized people rose to 180 (compared to 160 the previous day) and there are already 72 patients in intensive care (compared to 65 on Thursday).
The new infections
Once again, most of those new infections (55) were detected in the Uusimaa region (Helsinki and the surrounding municipalities), which has already passed the 1,000 mark and accumulates 1,015 positive cases (63% of the total).

Police and military conscripts have established roadblocks to isolate this region from the rest of the country, but these restrictions seem more theoretical than real. On Thursday, 46,619 vehicles arrived at the Uusimaa border with the intention of crossing, according to police information. Of them, only 185 received orders to turn around.
One million cases worldwide
The number of cases worldwide already exceeds one million and more than 53,000 people have died, according to the latest data from the real-time map created by the Johns Hopkins University Center for Systems Science and Engineering.
