Finland records 458 coronavirus cases and 1 death since Friday

The incidence of new cases relative to the Finnish population is now 27.2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the past two weeks. In Helsinki, that number is twice the country's average.

Finland is experiencing a stage of spread of the coronavirus, as reflected in the figures published by the health authorities.

According to the numbers released on Monday by the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), the country reported 458 new Covid-19 infections and 1 more death to the registry of communicable diseases since Friday.

On Saturday 3 October, 147 new cases were recorded by the hospital districts. The next day, Sunday, another 147 cases were recorded and 164 more on Monday, the health agency explained in its website. To date, the total number of diagnosed infections in Finland stands at 10,702.

THL also reported 1 more death associated with the Covid-19 disease in the Helsinki-Uusimaa region, bringing the total number of deaths in Finland to 346.

Incidence of new cases

The figures also show an increase in the number of people hospitalized due to the Covid-19 disease, which now stands at 22. Of these, 8 are admitted to intensive care. These numbers show an increase of 7 hospital patients and 4 intensive care patients compared to last Friday.

The incidence of new cases in relation to the population is also increasing fast. Now it is 27.2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last two-week period.

However, there are large variations in the infection rate. For example in the Helsinki area - the epicenter and worst hit region - it is 53.9 per 100,000 residents, while in Northern Ostrobothnia it is 7.5 per 100,000.

Finnish laboratories have carried out more than 1,084,300 tests. An estimated 8,100 people have recovered from the disease, representing more than 80% of reported cases.
