The Vantaa authorities have decided to subject all students and staff of the Kilteri school, located in the Myyrmäki neighborhood, to coronavirus tests due to the discovery of several cases of infection in recent weeks.

Kilteri is a secondary school with grades 7-9 where distance learning was introduced on 7 December, after the start of infections.

Since then, 425 students and 76 staff members were tested for coronavirus, according to a press release published Tuesday by the city of Vantaa. A total of 51 Covid-19 cases have been reported at the school over the past month, 4 of which were found among the staff.

The City of Vantaa said infections were "detected in all grade levels and in almost all classes". Most of those infected had no known source of infection other than school.

Distance learning

Close contacts have been mapped in all identified cases and exposed people have been quarantined.

Distance learning will continue at Kilter school as planned until 20 December.

Currently, the coronavirus is spreading strongly in Vantaa. To curb the epidemic, local authorities have called on citizens to limit social contacts to what is strictly necessary and, when moving outside their homes, take care of security gaps, hand hygiene and the use of masks.
