Finland suffered 45 new infections by coronavirus (koronavirus, in Finnish) in the last 24 hours, bringing to 1,927 the total number of infections reported until Sunday. With 1,189 cases (61.7%), the region of Helsinki-Uusimaa is by far the most affected.
The epidemic is further spreading, but it does not hit all population groups equally.
According to the latest data published by the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), in Finland the disease affects mainly young adults and middle-aged people: Of the total of infections, 58% (or 1,119 cases) are patients between 30 and 59 years old.
The age group with the most diagnosed patients is that of those between 50 and 59 years old (410 cases). It is followed, at a short distance, by people between 40 and 49 years old (371).
Elderly and risk groups
There are also 338 infected between the ages of 30 and 39. Among people over 70, considered people at risk, there are a total of 193 diagnosed patients.
The number of infections increased by 45 from the previous day. Until Saturday, 1,882 infections had been reported.
On Saturday, 4 April, THL announced that 5 more patients had died in Finnish hospitals, the largest increase in deaths in a single day. So far, 25 people had died from Covid-19 in Finland.
At the time of writing this article, THL had not yet updated the corresponding number of deaths or the numbers of people hospitalized and in intensive care.
