China has tightened border controls and imposing stricter quarantine measures.

China reported the highest number of new daily coronavirus cases in nearly six weeks. On Sunday, the National Health Commission said the country had 108 new confirmed cases with 98 attributed to travelers from overseas.

These new cases were marking the highest number of cases since 143 infections were reported on 5 March.

According to France 24, a total of 49 Chinese nationals who entered Heilongjiang province from Russia tested positive.

Although the number of daily infections across China has dropped sharply after February, China has seen the daily toll creep higher after hitting a trough on March 12 because of the rise in imported cases.

According to Mirror, Chinese cities near the border with Russia are tightening border controls and imposing stricter quarantines in response to the influx of infected patients from the country.

Beijing is concerned that infected people entering the country could cause a second wave and force a return to the severe lockdown measures that it has recently emerged from. Some 950 million people were told to stay in the homes and armed soldiers patrolled the streets. According to The Thaiger, it worked.
